Clarkston, c. 1900

HOW WE BEGAN

In the early 1970s, the village was in danger of losing many of its historic homes and businesses when the state of Michigan considered widening Main Street to four lanes to accommodate truck traffic. Concerned citizens mobilized to stop the project by adding village structures to the National Register of Historic Places. Many of those citizens then channeled their devotion to preserving village history into forming the Clarkston Community Historical Society.

OUR MISSION

The Clarkston Community Historical Society has been created in order to bring together those people interested in the history of our community; and, as far as possible, to collect and/or preserve such things that are of historic interest.

MEETING INFORMATION

Members and the general public are invited to attend Clarkston Community Historical Society board of directors meetings, held at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the museum.

Please let us know if you plan on attending by calling the office, 248-922-0270. The board does not meet during the months of June, July, November and December.
